    WIndows Licensing

    Quick question re windows licensing...

I bought a boxed copy of Windows 8.1 and installed it alongside Linux on my laptop, mainly just for games and those time when I HAVE to use windows.

Question is, can I install it a second time as a VM on the same laptop using Linux as a host? Naturally it would be impossible for both instances to run at the same time but will it cause any issues with the Microsoft licensing police?

Two different machines in effect. So no
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

As ever, you need a degree in Microsoft licensing to work it out for your scenario.

This also seems to apply only if you're using volume licensing. Goodness knows what you do if you're not a VL customer.

You should be fine! However, i would assume you have your partitions set correctly! other than that - you are fine !!!

If it installs and runs ok the licencing must be right!

On the other hand, if one of the top MS bods hypes up the share price then dumps a load like Larry Ellison did a few years back then they may be chasing down licencing revenue to keep out of jail. Still, he sold $900M worth before the price dropped 25% then got done for $123M in fines plus costs so he didn't care.

I guess I'll just give it a try and see what happens
