Monitor problem

At seemingly random intervals, the monitor I am using at this very moment displays a blank screen.
The green power light remains on, however, and switching the monitor off then on lets me continue.

I don't mind replacing the monitor which is fairly old, but I don't want to do that if something else is at fault.

All suggestions welcomed.

Check the video cable is secure and the thumbscrews tightened. Try another video cable.

The cable does not appear to be detachable at the monitor end, so I'll check the connection at the PC as susggested. Fingers crossed.

I had that problem with my last monitor, just like it resets itself. I hear a click when I do it and it comes back on. Doesn't seem to affect the power light but not like it's switching off, no boot upscreen, just a click, blank screen then it comes back on. Started doing it every couple of hours. Bloke at the repair shop said it sounded like an internal component failing and wouldn't really be worth repairing so junked it and got another. Had it a good couple of years at least so was a bit of a no brainer really.

DVI or VGA?

If ITs VGA try installing the drivers for the video adapter and for your specific monitor, if that makes no difdference it's the monitor at fault. replace it they are cheap enough now

If its DVI get a DVI to VGA adapter, I had a very similar issue with a flat panel dell was fine for 12 months then it started going on and off, it didn,t like the DVI changed the cable to VGA and worked fine ever since

Thanks for all the replies.

The monitor has been OK since I took off the cable at the PC end and re-attached it.
At first I was getting "no signal" but I slackened the retaining screws and it now appears OK.
