Drive cams

Might fitting a drive cam in one's car reduce insurance?

The system at http://www.drivecam.co.uk seems a bit over elaborate and probably expensive for privately owned cars. But it's surprisingly hard to find web sites selling personal drive cams. (That's a hint by the way, to any helpful readers who may know of some )

Was going to go find the other drive cam thread and post this but seems this one has started...

Woman down the road had a cash for crash accident a couple of months ago. Classic break hard in front of her for no reason so she ends up ramming him. English guy as well strangely enough but anyway, she lost out so got a dashboard cam for if it ever happened again. Someone broke in to her car and stole it 2 weeks after she got it! She left the charger in the but just hid the camera so it was going begging really. She isn't a happy bunny!

I've been thinking of one for a while, prompted by all those Russian car crash videos (where everyone seems to use one) and the fact that in the last three accidents I have had (none my fault, honest!) no-one has bothered to stop and act as a witness. I'm still looking for their night performance though as half my driving is in the dark.

The Roadhawk HD looks pretty good for picture quality (the best in the World they claim), although not very compact.

But it also looks eminently nickable, so my one concern is how easy it is to slide the camera on and off that bracket on the adhesive mount, without over time dislodging the mount or wearing away the bracket so the camera starts wobbling.

They also do a suction mount. But that looks more clunky and intrusive and I wonder again if repeated removal and refitting wouldn't weaken it before long. That is the one worrying issue they don't mention anywhere on their site AFAICS.

edit: Actually the BlackVUE DR400G HD II looks better - More compact, and I especially like that phrase "Quick release mounting".

Brake, braking, brakes - slowing down a car, bike etc

break, breaking etc - smashing things up or taking time off

Literacy is really on the decline, innit.
