I expect the letter rescinding his passport got lost in the post.

I've just had my application for a replacement driving licence rejected also. I need to make a change to the details on the original because my date of birth was a day out - I only found out I was born the day before I thought I was once I got into my mid 20's. Before sending the paperwork I called the DVLA to see if I needed to send in my passport also. I was told because the signature and photo were on the same page then I would not need to send it in. I was advised to write a covering letter also. I sent this all in with a photo copy of the relevant page from my passport. It was rejected because photo copied passports are not acceptable and only the original would do. So basically they saw the photocopy and rejected it assuming that was there in place of my passport and didn't bother the read the covering letter or check their own systems.
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

      I preferred version 1!

The point is I didn't send it because they told me not to. I reckon that as soon as the person saw the photocopy they just rejected it because they assumed I'd sent it in instead of my passport. They didn't bother to read the application form or the letter.

          No quality assurance

Our last Romanian nanny applied for her blue card, basically a racist and shameful process that lets her work for anyone, not just us.

          They rejected her.

So I watched as she took the returned documents out of the envelope, wrote a new cheque and posted it straight back to the Home Office.

          Not one detail had changed.

Two weeks later she got the card.

Whatever your view on immigration, that's not right. Either she should have been rejected again or she should not have been refused in the first place.

Note how her expectation was that this would work, she knew this so strongly that it didn't faze her or require her to think of a way around it. That is because the failings of the HO system are so well known to Romanians (and presumably other nationalities) that she expected this and had been told what to do about it.

A quailty process is one that does the same thing each time, the Home Office does not have QA.

If you apply for a licence via Gov Gateway you can get it to grab your passport if it's current.

Don't forget tho if your passport pic is 9 years 6 months old, you driving licence will need renewing in 6 months......

Romania used to be a communist country, so they're probably well versed in the ways of Kafkan government procedures and have a great tradition of finding their way around them. In a strange way we should perhaps be grateful to your Romanian nanny.

Well done to her; she could be a good tester.

Think AtW used that approach for his visa

Curious as to why you think it is a racist process - just had a shuftie around the website and found the following but couldn't see any mention of "no darkies" anywhere

Which bit do you find shameful?

How do I apply for an EU Blue Card?

If you are a non-EU citizen and want to live and work in the EU, an EU Blue Card will be of interest to you.
The Blue Card will be valid for three years, allowing you and your family to live, work and travel in the EU and apply for permanent residence after five years.
You will need to fill certain criteria to successfully apply for an EU Blue Card:
                    A recognised diploma, and:
                    Evidence of at least three years professional experience, and;
Offer of an EU job contract with a salary of three times the minimum wage.
It is expected the EU Blue Card scheme will be open for twenty-five European countries (UK & Ireland not included), each allocating a set number of Blue Card visas available to highly skilled workers each year.
