    CUK bike ride?

Just wondered if anyone is interested in a social CUK bike ride - leisurely pace, lycra optional!

Open to suggestions, but a couple of ideas below.

For starters, the Benson Vintage cycle rally is well worth a visit. First Sunday of July. Nice ride along very quiet roads from Reading, which has good public transport links. About 40 miles round trip, with nice pub lunch and lots of old bikes in the middle.

Or if London based suits people better, the Putney to Staines (or Reading) route is really nice and fairly easy - again easily accessible on the train, and lots of opportunity to bail en route if you only fancy 10 or 20 miles.

    Anyone fancy it?

Yep - I am up for it - what about OracleSlave? Didn't he do London/Paris and he is based in Berkshire too?

If anyone wants to join me I set off from New Eltham at 5am tomorrow to go to entrance of Channel Tunnel and back.

I am Berkshire based and would be keen. I am training for the Etape at the moment so a leisurely 40 miles is probably not my thing for now but after July I could be pursuaded to slow down a bit

All was fine until Maidstone - it rained lightly. Then it monsooned! Eventually after 30 miles I had to turn back - but then I started to shiver ALOT. Got on the train at West Malling and I went into shock - a lady gave me some "little hotties" - shake bags of stuff that give off warmth. Mrs BP had to pick me up from Swanley.

After long hot bath and an hour in front of first I am only just starting to feel okay. Well I am never okay - but as close to okay is I get...

Horrible when you get proper cold. I find tea and doughnuts help.

I went to Dorking and the Surrey Hills on Saturday to do my regular training ride along the route of the Surrey Legs of Steel, it is a nice hilly one and includes Box Hill and Leith Hill and one particular 21% bastard!!! I got so cold and wet that after the ride I couldnt feel my feet at all!!! Took 20 minutes before I could drive home!!

                    Eeek, nasty one Brillo.

It was bloody cold on the weekend - I ended up putting a fleece on when I was cycling.
