    Keyboards

    Right then.

I am fed up with what passes for a keyboard in the modern world. It's time for me to invest in a decent one. I want the pressing of keys to be a joy, so none of those little rubber dome squishy wobbly keys, I want proper mechanical switches.

So, I have narrowed it down the Cherry G80-3000 and Filco Majesttouch. I've ruled out the "Das Keyboard" because I've heard rumours of problems with these.

Anyone have one of these? Or have recommendations for others?

    TIA

I know the ones you mean, the first proper PC I owned was an IBM PS/2. They are nice. Not sure how practical it is to get working with USB though.

Little rubber dome squishy wobbly keys? Mmm like the sound of those, I could happily spend my day fiddling with them.

There was a whole industry that grew up making "proper" keyboards for the spectrum. We had one of these

              IBM Model M

Or the keyboards for the Apple Macintosh IIcs or Quadra were pretty good too.

The Model M is, as I suspected, only available in beige. And quite expensive on eBay.

I did find these guys, apparently they bought the rights from IBM. Not sure about the grey keys though.

IBM keyboards, clicky keyboard, model m keyboards

I've got three das keyboards, one in each of the places i find myself working.

Bloody amazing keyboard, and having used it, everything else seems sub par.

I'd honestly consider giving one a go.

The best keyboards I've used were Digital (later Compaq) LK series keyboards. Rumour had it that you could put them through the dishwasher, though I never tried.

                    Cherry were good as well.
