    Friday Art Corner

Yesterday, in a post, I mentioned Sandy as Beatrice. This morning, someone mentioned the Inferno. So I decided to post one of my favourite paintings by Delacroix.

        Never trust a woman

        Samson and Delilah by Reubens

In the National Gallery (amazing how large the brush strokes are given how it looks from a few feet away).
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

This is one of my favourite paintings, The Supper at Emmaus by Carravagio. As with most great paintings, no reproduction of it comes close to the feeling of depth that Carravagio has created. When you are standing next to the original, it almost feels as though the man on the right is touching you.

One of my favourite artists is Jean-Léon Gérôme (maybe not a great but I like him). I would post one of his images, but last time I tried that ScotsPine removed it!

It has a very proud and noble history in the European art tradition.

I like Gustav Klimt, especially the way he paints his models just after shagging them.

I was at a party once where the morning after reminded me of this:

Insanity: repeating the same actions, but expecting different results.
