It's time to dump my accountant...

    But the question is: when?

Not yet as he will be doing my company accounts for the taxman.

Do I pull the plug after I send my cheque off to the IR?

    Over to you chaps...

    P.S.
If you're wondering why, £75pm for just Annual Returns and Tax Calculation (no payroll or VAT - I have to register for that this year) is too much for too little..

Sounds OK. Might be better to stick with the devil you know.

No point paying and doing the work yourself

£75 and then doing payroll, vat yourself is crazy man. Get an accountant whose service is all inclusive - payroll, income tax, corp tax, vat. I use AccountsNet and everything is available online.

Re: No point paying and doing the work yourself

        Hi Jacko

If your accountant is a reasonable professional, there should be no problem dumping him at any stage of the proceedings as you new accountant should deal with everything. Accountants are legally bound to pass on all pertinent information to a new accountant.
Having said all that, unless your current accountant has really upset you, I would transfer at the end of your company year. At this point the old accountant will be obliged to complete the end of year return for you, albeit up to 10 months after you have terminated your arrangement with them.
Most accountants will take on and complete year end work from a previous accountant for a fixed fee.

About accountants being obliged to pass on everything, that's not what I have read. Accounts and forms submitted maybe but any supporting calculations are their own property.

When I left my accountant (one that's talked about a lot on here, well liked by planetit) they just sent me a big wad of papers, and told me not to bother them again as that's all they have.

Not sure what mine did but my new accountant had no problems with it whatever it was.

They were charging and doing about the same as Cojak's - it seems that you pay more and get less from the non-specialist companies.

I chose them because they were local and at the time I thought I'd maybe need to go in to discuss things with them - that never happened - the only time I went to the office was to drop off and pick up my file of supporting invoices payslips bank statements etc. Eventually I decided that they were charging far too much for what they did and swapped.
