    New Agency Trick?

Got a phone call out of the blue from Abraxas this morning and spoke to someone who told me about two roles and my availability. I declined one of them immediately because it was for a client who had asked me to engage in unethical behaviour late last year leading to a swift termination. I explained this to him. The conversation then progressed to the other role and he asked me to send through my latest details in return for the spec, if satisfied I'd be a good person to put forward. He gave me his name, e-mail addy and phone number to call direct.

I did this late this afternoon after spending considerable time updating it. When I rang to follow up after sending my updated brochure she went to put me through and then returned to the phone herself that he wouldn't take my call and then told me that I did not receive any such call from the named person from this morning's call. She claimed that the two named roles didn't exist either (even though I know that one of the clients named does in fact use Abraxas) and that the person who called me this morning was too senior in the organisation to handle client placements.

I asked for my details to be removed immediately and this has been confirmed by the assistant's e-mail I insisted on having. The funny thing is - when I tried to contact Mr Morrell after three attempts he not only declined to take my call (first attempt), he hasn't followed up with my e-mails outlining my concerns either and has been mysteriously out of the office the rest of the day. I would have thought that if there was a genuine imposter he would have been interested in following this up with me if someone is using his name under false pretences. The assistant also sounded to me to be very defensive as if she was covering something up rather than adopting the tone of someone who was genuinely concerned that her boss's details were being falsified to extract my new CV details from me.

Can anyone advise on how I should handle this. Is this a breach of the Data Protection Act? Should I report it to the police as a nuisance call from Abraxas extrapolating information under false pretences from someone high up in the organisation (he definitely is, I've checked). Is it really likely to be someone outside Abraxas who has used Abraxas details to get me to send my marketing info' as his assistant insisted had happened, and, if so, for what purpose?

    Serious advice needed. Thanks

    One for theinformer, I think.

    What say you, Infoman?

      Abraxas = iProfile

Your data could be anywhere by now.

I would use the DPA to remove iProfile at source since Abraxas may not have control over its removal.

Then you can use Jobjock to filter iProfile agencies.

      Jobjock is free.

Did he give you [email protected]? If he did then the assistant's lying.

If he gave you something like [email protected] then the assistant's lying.

If he gave you [email protected] then the assistant may/may not be lying.

        Simple, really.

(Are you listening Mr Morrell of Abraxas? )

Sorry to sound cruel Denny, but my reading of this is that Abraxas were told by the client who asked you "to engage in unethical behaviour" put your dismissal quite differently (rightly or wrongly) and the agency came away thinking that you are a bit of a knob. Given this the agency decided to take flight from you.

Given your obsession with calling things as you think they should be called (EB instead of agency or Brochure instead of CV) and your determination to go to the wire on some of the most trivial issues would suggest that you are a bit of nightmare to employ.

How dare you suggest Denny would be 'employed'. As he repeatedly points out, it is a B2B relationship...

              Older and ...well, just older!!

That's how I read the likelihood too. But a possible reason why Abraxas behaved as they did doesn't alter the fact that, if they did as the OP described, then at least one person at Abraxas is brazenly lying. Sorry, that is not "just business".

Abraxas are on my list of agencies I never speak to. They messed me about last year.

Fair comment they should deal with it better than that
