    Intranet

    Hi,

A friend has asked me to set him up an intranet on the weekends, but i am not to sure about the best way to get started.

Is dreamweaver 8 good for this?

I have to check this during my lunch hour, so please reply!

If you don't know the answer already, why do you think you can deliver it??

Seriously, if it's not too complex, use FrontPage to get it up and running, much easier to learn than DreamWeaver and with most of the same features. If it's really noddy you can get away with Word, but it produces horrible HTML
    Blog? What blog...?

      Thanks,

I know how to use Dreamweaver - but only HTML and basic Java...

Can i just set it up like a website but point the links to the main drive?..

and then i need to share it among 7PCs....

Start with a webserver then worry about the site.

I would have expected the client to have a internal webserver running, if you put it on an external webserver it's hardly an intranet is it! Either way you need something to serve the pages.....

From what you have said so far it does sound like something you may want to think twice about as you don't really seem to know what is involved.

I think u may be right... i want to give it a try as its a friends company and good experience...

Can i not run it from a local server, for example N Drive, so all the networked computers point to a page such as. N:\intranet\index....

Whats the best way to set up an internal webserver if applicable? - sorry about this guys, i am bit thick on this!

              Have a look at this;

              http://www.aprelium.com/abyssws/

This will let you run a local webserver. And of course RTFM

You could also look at Apache, and IIS (ack)

                    Yeah, like a dog looks at a remote control . . .

Apache is the one but . . . seriously! LOL

                    Dreamweaver, Frontpage, Word . . .

try notepad better still try Zend Studio or if zero budget then use PSPad.

Im sure it will all be good experience for both the OP and the intranet users.
