    Giant and hidden fees

    Hi,

I'm having issues in trying to get Giant to explain to me a break down on the "hidden" costs, but this is proving to be impossible.

I was with Parasol, but left them in July as their charges are way too high, and every person I spoke to on the phone sounded like a child and new nothing about the business they where supporting.
Now I'm with Giant, and have a similar issue with their "Employers cost including Company Net Margin of £28.00". This is not just £28, which I understand, but it's into the hundreds.
I have asked Giant to explain and break down this cost but they refuse to tell me.

They've replied with this, "You have the company margin of £28. The remaining amount would be for your holiday pay, and employers costs. As these are employers costs we are not required to provide the full breakdown"

The last reply, "As the costs are employers cost, which Giant process, they are not part of your gross payment and therefore, are at the discretion of the employer"

Surely, legally they have to let me know what I'm being charged for in a detailed break down? I need to know what I'm paying for.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

    Thanks
    ST

Employment costs normally relate to the Employers NI and Apprenticeship Levy - if it helps to try to figure these out then take a look at our online calculator this has the full breakdown of what is what - and this "should" be the same with any brolly. If you need any assistance or I can help explain it then do let me know either via LinkedIn or the general email address via our website

Thanks very much, I used the calculator and it came close to what Giants, pun intended, come too.
Time to move on, perm or Limited, I need to think about this.

      Thanks again.

To which my reply would be. "Neither am I required to use you for my next contract. Please explain to me what this charge encompasses.". Legally they may not be required, but there's this little thing known as "customer service". It's pisspoor when another umbrella company owner is able to explain and Giant aren't.

I wasn't impressed with the company formerly known as IAS when they started. Nothing seems to have changed.

To be blunt that's actually not true. The two things an umbrella company should do (especially as there are so many fake ones around is):-

          1) pay you the correct sum of money after fees and tax
          2) ensure you know that the correct amount of tax is being paid - to ensure everyone knows HMRC doesn't come after you later.

I would have thought that was covered by point 2 but given that this is Giant yes it probably needs to be explicitly stated....
