Advice for a short term gig in Germany

    Hi All,

Disclaimer: first post, not sure what I'm doing, please don't be too unkind.

I am a UK based IT contractor operating through a limited co and am in an existing contract in the UK.

I have been offered some short term IT consultancy type work in Germany which I can fit into my existing work.
Nothing has been finalised yet, but the aim currently is to spend a week on-site in Germany in 2-3 months delivering training/consultancy to about 5 people on a database that is used by this company as the backend for their application.
The time spent on site will therefore only be a week, but in order for me to come up with a week's worth of training/advice it will probably take me about a month (at least) to come up with enough content to fill 5 days.

I therefore need any advice on everything from coming up with a formula on how to charge them which includes the time I spend coming up with the training material, how to come up with a contract (I am an IPSE member so I envisage utilising their legal service) and any country specific details/legalities/UK and German tax implications I need to be aware of (e.g. do I need to 'register' in the country in some way, even though I'm only there for a week?)

    TIA.

Try the search method as described in the Welcome/FAQ section. It's in one of the stickies. Plenty of info on German gigs already on here.

A week on site is not enough for there to be tax implications in Germany, that is just a business trip. Even if it was considered taxable you wouldn't even exceed the tax threshold, as most of the work would be carried out in the UK and therefore only the proportion of work carried out in Germany would be taxable.
      I'm alright Jack

Thanks - that is what I was thinking because whilst I will be spending a few weeks preparing the delivery of my client's requirements the preparation will only be in the UK and will only be spending one week in Germany and I didn't really find any stuff in the sticky threads referred to previously that I felt covered this particular situation.
