Historical Global Market Capitalisation (Top 10 countries) data

Anyone know where I can get this?

What I'm after is say the top 10(ish) countries by market cap, for each year over the last 15 or so years. Any annual reports that may contain it?

    e.g.:

    2003:
    1. United States 54.3% $8.4 trillion
    2. Japan 21.5% $3.1 trillion
    3. U.K. 14.5% $2.1 trillion
    4. etc.

    2004:
    1. United States 52.3% $9.1 trillion
    2. Japan 18.5% $3.0 trillion
    3. U.K. 13.5% $2.3 trillion
    4. etc.

    2005:
    etc.

    Any ideas?

Do you mean by GDP a country doesn't really have a market capitalization, only companies do

Nah I mean market cap, the total world equity market capitalization that each countries stock market makes up.

e.g. see the graphs in this article:

      https://seekingalpha.com/article/405...rld-market-cap

I did look for Bloomberg world market cap indices but I think it must be behind a paywall.

I'm looking for long term trends for when rebalancing my portfolio so e.g. have it a bit EM heavy and lose some UK/Europe and possibly US etc.

You could always contact the people who put up those graphs and ask them where they got the data from.
Most professional journals would provide links to the source data (or at least say where it came from), but that article appears to be advertorial rather than based purely on fact.

My advice for data sets is if there is a supplier of the data you trust and they have the data available for a fee buy it as otherwise the data may be incomplete or of dubious accuracy.

You don’t want to know how much I’m currently spending conforming the accuracy of some datasets I’m combining

Yeh but it's pretty top level data, which is why I thought it would be pretty easy to locate, it's not like I want 15-minute prices and volumes for a stock going back to 2002 or something.

              .
But the stock might be listed in London and New York, but actually be a Spanish company.

Not sure what you are trying to to makes sense, but good luck.
