Best paying database developer environment?

On my new gig, the database development team is looking to move wholesale away from Sybase. Postgres is suggested. Though suggestions are welcome.

What database developer environment pays the best at the moment? I will then suggest it as the best technical solution.

If I suggested anything involving SAP I would hope to be sacked immediately. I like to deliver in under 5 years.

Hadoop has been discussed and is very fashionable. The main objection seems to be we only have a 10TB database so are not big enough for big data. Though 10TB seems quite large to me - clearly I need to get with the times.

SAP HANA is an in memory hardware with onboard software box.

Very good as it happens, I know a few that are using it and have been for a few years.

I should have added, hving done a fair amount of work with SAP R3 and BW I can understand your original sentiment

Also real life example:-

Same tables, same query, well known IB.

Oracle just over 5.5 minutes.
HANA - 0.6 seconds.

HANA can be used for non-SAP applications, but AFAIK not many do that. But moving traditional SAP+RDBMS to HANA, yes.

Hadoop is more for big data / unstructured data, which traditional Sybase ASE data won't be.

I'd suggest EnterpriseDB or PostgresPure. Maybe even MongoDB if you want to get more radical.

Sorry, my bad this is what I was alluding to.
You can also covert row based to column based for analytic applications.

Most of the people I know are using it in the manner that Platypus described, or using it in conjunction with SAP BW.
