So I'm permie these days but...

After being part of a pilot for online training (which I took full advantage of), it looks like it will be rolled out company wide next month. Not restricted to the skills I use in the role I and others in IT can choose to do as many of the courses we like, unlimited.

Gone are the days of paying for my own training so if and when I choose to go back to contracting I'll have an enhanced CV with several new skills added (hands on as well not just watching a video).

What y'all doing with training if at all?

I try to ensure that after each new contract I have an enhanced cv with additional hands-on skills.
I do on-line courses and read-up too, but wouldn't claim any new skills acquired that way unless I'd used them on an active project.

+1 the idea that you go in as an expert and can't learn anything in a contract is just wrong.

Every contract should add something to you skill set. The question is are you careful in the contracts you take and have an actual.plan or do you just take the first contract that comes along.

You need to do the former to have a long term career.

+1 and that means you need to keep a decent warchest so you're not forced to take a contract.

I signed up to Coursera, and have taken a contract where I'm getting the chance to learn on the job some new tech. Which is nice.

I thought you had to restrain & support MF when he worked for you?
