Recruiting a person who alreay has another job

    G'day,

I will have a new employee joining my limited company in a couple weeks. That person is employed in a different place from June 2016 and will continue working there. Her salary in that workplace is £6100 per year. We agreed that she will be getting a salary of £4000 per year in my company. Both earnings combined will not be higher than £11,000 per year. In order to pay proper taxes, I want to know the following:

    a. Do I need to take any other steps apart from paying her a salary normally?
    b. Do I need to take into account earnings from her 1st workplace (and calculate taxes with both salaries combined)?
    c. Do I need to inform the 1st workplace that that person is employed in my company?
    d. Any other things I need to be aware when employing a person who is employed elsewhere?

    Thank you for any help.

    Classic - ask your accountant.
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world that he didn't exist

Thank you for the suggestion. I try to manage the accounting myself. Everything seems to be going well apart from this question here. I assume you are not recommending to get an accountant just to sort this one out?

Wouldn't be your wife, girlfriend or a relation would it?

You got a watertight contract of employment available for her?

Yes, it would be my partner. Tho that person would be responsible for managing the company - calls, accounts, acquiring new contracts (short time work). It's not like we're splitting shares 50:50, I am aware of that

Edit: phoned up HMRC, they told me to assign BR code to the new employee and then they will sort the rest and will send me the new code and return overpaid taxes.

Here we go... Another smoke and mirrors half the facts post looking for the answer they want....

Why the bloody hell can't people post the full story when when they are asking strangers to put their time in for free to help them. Really gets my goat.

                Go speak to your accountant.

northernladuk, there is nothing else to the story. My partner works in one place part time where she gets £6100/year. She helps me with the company, does most of the admin work and therefor would be sensible to employ her and maximize her allowance of £11k. It's not like we are trying to launder millions and billions and I want some complicated advice. Plain and simple.

I thought this forum was about people helping each other

It is but that requires an open honest description and not this rubbish about 'an employee'. That's you not helping yourself.
