    Professional email (cheap or free)

I'd like to run quite a few mail boxes @mystartup.com for very little money or free. 10-20 in all.
I've googled it and what comes up just feels like a waste of money as we're not looking for anything fancy, just emails and minimal storage.

Can anyone recommend a service for the job?

I have been using 1&1 for years with no problems so far.

Originally I used them to forward my domain, then I added email, and now I use them to host my website and email.

Another one for 1&1, they are not the cheapest around, but they are pretty bullet proof. Which is what you want for a business service. They've had a couple of outages in the 5 years I've been using them but I didn't actually notice them at the time, only found out via El Reg etc reporting on them.

Just works with most email clients and has the option of a full Exchange implementation if that's what you really want.

I wouldn't trust one of my business most important communication line to a free service...

Google Mail for business. It's google mail but with your domain name. Quite cheap I believe (I don't use it myself because my email comes with my hosting, but I know folks who do use it and they're happy). The thing I *really* like about Gmail is all your mail whereever you are on any device.

I'll second Google mail for Business (acutally now called "Google Apps For Work"). Cheapest option is £3.30 per user per month - See: https://apps.google.co.uk/pricing.html

Another very good option is FastMail (https://www.fastmail.com/). Dedicated email hosting company. They do it right.

Neither of these are the very "cheapest" options, but email is incredibly important to me so I don't mess about with it for the sake of saving a few quid here and there.

                    Went the GoDaddy route here..

Package included exchange email, domain, domain protection & O365. (OneDrive for Business [1TB] / Skype for Business etc..)

It's worth noting that you don't necessarily have to buy into multi-user/mailbox packages which can cost you more in your subscription. Not sure if it's the same with other providers but with the package I'm on with GD you're able to create multiple alias email addresses which route to your primary address and from there you can setup rules so that they get auto delivered to specific folders within your mailbox, to keep things nice and tidy.

                    i.e
                    PRIMARY [email protected]
                    ALIAS1 [email protected]
                    ALIAS2 [email protected]
                    ALIAS3 [email protected]

This way you can filter out a lot of rubbish that can be sent to your mailbox, especially from online job-sites...
