    Client co's tulip chair

A couple of months ago I had a back injury which coupled by client co's tulip 60's chair is giving me grief. 7 hrs a day on this thing is ridiculous. Do I

    A) Buy a decent Herman Miller chair and bring it into client co's office and look like I get paid too much to the annoyance of the permie's.

    B) Carry on with tulip chair and suffer in silence popping Ibuprofen every few hours like some sort of junkie.

Sod what the permies think - you can't work properly (now or in the future) if you knacker your back up.

this does wind me up, they all bang on about permy health and safety and workers rights and people being off sick but then they expect their staff to sit on tulip chairs for 8 hours a day, I have yet to go to a client where everyone had a decent chair.

buy your own but nothing to expensive because it's going to go missing and make them aware you need it for medical reason

Erm, what about option C) Buy a Herman Miller and bring it in because it eases the pain in your back but you don't give a **** what you anyone else thinks?

No choice to be made but C then. Easy.

Question though. I have an Aeron and it's worth every penny to stop me aching but are they really the best chair if you have an existing problem? Would it not be better getting a proper orthopaedic chair that address the pain you've got or will the Aeron's unlimited settings be enough to make it comfortable?

I'm quite inclined to go for the Mirra. I had one at a previous client and found it comfortable.

After spending a decent amount on a Tempur mattress at home which made a huge difference, Im going for it.

The problem is a disc tear which is healing but not being helped by sitting down on this tulip chair as there isn't much support in the lumbar region. The Mirra I found supported everywhere taking pressure off base of the spine.

          Stuff em

            D) Buy a Herman Miller and retrieve it from contracts/procurement every morning. "Son, about that extension..."

Seriously, though, I wouldn't be taking a 1k+ chair onto a client site and expecting it to remain behind my desk You'll probably find it in the bogs with a strategically placed hole.

I'm sat on a Mira at client co right now and I'm not that impressed. They aren't hugely more expensive than other decent office chairs so don't think they are aimed at the same audience as the Aeron and I find my Aeron much much more comfortable. It's your choice but if I was battling crippling back ache I'd be buying a much better chair.

What about working standing up with an upright desk?
