    TAX TOPICS - private forum

I mentioned in another thread, I think it unwise to discuss some of the implications of tax measures in a public forum. Recent controversial moves to give potentially liable parties (providers) three years warning of liability may also have brought providers into this category as well?

We have been looking into a how a more secure environment might be achieved.

    More details to come but...

We (WTT Big Group) have/are creating a distinct part of our Big Group forum which we have titled "TAX TOPICS".

Each month we will choose a topic and invite comments, observations, thoughts, rants, whinges, suggestions, ideas and possible answers.

Members of Big Group will have access to this part of the forum without need to do anything.

Non members will be able to access and contribute to the forum once signed up.

That sign up process is simple.

We will need some evidence that the person is a contractor (APN, DA, redacted contract, etc).

Aside from that, we will need an email address - for preference your usual private address - and a forum name. That name can match the CUK name you use if that's easier.

    There is NO CHARGE.

WTT Big Group does reserve the right to use the email address to send messages (we're planning a newsletter) but aside from that we will not bother you.

Joiners to the TAX TOPICS forum will NOT be able to see the rest of the BG Forum which is a paid for service (£18 a month, plus a joining fee that is going up from £60 very soon).

We're expecting this to be live perhaps Tuesday/Wednesday next week.

If you'd like details of how to join and are not already in Big Group, please PM me.

I have cleared this with the mods. The condition is that I do not bombard every thread with this message. Therefore aside from perhaps posting a direct link, once we have it working, I will say little more.

Note, the TAX TOPICS forum is much more limited than the material on these threads and IS NOT an alternative but rather a support able to be a little more private.

Its a big step in the right direction (befitting a big group).

When in f4j, we got used to being infiltrated and did something similar. That deterred government and police. But we still got a journalist in - it ended up with a ITV 30 minute special.

Its not infallible - but it will help alot!

If hmrc want to infiltrate I'm sure they have the resources to create/provide fake information that would meet group requirements

How about an extra step. Ask someone who is already in big group or the wider forum to verify your identity - you may need to be tough on this for the safety of genuine /verified joiners.

This is working on the understanding that many schemes were spread by word of mouth? Just an idea. Still I'm not sure how you can make anything 100% secure.

        Nothing will be 100% secure.

If HMRC use a taxpayer's details to gain access and we find out, would they risk losing their job just for the information? I think not.

Given the (perceived) money at stake they will hire a third party to do it for them - this is standard practice in Gov't where there's a rule preventing them from getting what they want. (e.g. the psychological warfare experts, Behavioural Insights Ltd)

I doubt they will. They are stupid and lazy and rely on bully boy tactics.

But nothing is 100% secure. Even Panamenian accountants are no longer safe....
