    Tech tests for future roles

I've an email from a chap at Real IT in Leeds asking me to complete a technical test without even being contacted regarding a role, is this sort of tripe going to become the norm?

The lad is a nice enough bloke and is very good at maintaining contact with his "golden" contractors, of which I'm certain there are only 3 maybe four of us, but do agents really think we've got time to fluff around undertaking tech tests just for the fun of it?

Sorry, but what do you mean exactly here? Do you mean he wants you to do the test and it's not for a specific role?

Indeed. Just an email saying he's not got many gigs at the moment for us gold contractors but can we complete this test anyway, just for any potential future roles.

Golden contractors my arse. A golden contractor should be constantly in a gig and not require any special attention...

Or is this the contracting equivalent of the 'Golden Rivet' on a ship?

Please don't shatter my dreams... I beg you not to do this..... I am golden, why would I be receiving mails saying I am if I'm not (apart from being cajoled down to the bumming section of a boat obv.)

Yes, his mails refer to myself, and obviously every other contact he has ever liaised with regardless of how bad they are at Excel formulae construction or sql Cartesian joining skills as "Golden".

Well, if it gets you the role and doesn't cost anything then why not ? If you are in contract right now then I can see it's inconvenient (but might mean your current skills mean you blow the test away) but otherwise it gives your agent the chance to showcase his "golden contractors" to clients who might otherwise be slow to take at this time.

              Personally, I'd go for it...

There is no role, in fact that's exactly what his mail is saying:

"I haven't got owt for you, golden child, and anything I do have is already going to be filled by one of my other 3 golden boys. But whilst you are here, do this test for me."

No doubt if he ever does have a gig for me to be put forward for, the end client will have a tech test for me to undertake so this is just pointless.

It's the pimp equivalent of 'dance for me b*tch', tell em to shove it.

Has he said 'He'll fix it for you' at any point during your chats??
