Close enough? Tax on pension scheme scams - wider application

HMRC demands pension liberation victims pay up - Citywire

I know this is not about contractor schemes but ...

I suggest that the pension "liberation" mis-selling scandal this refers to is the thin end of a very big wedge. If HMRC realise this and the monstrous sums involved and eventually reach some sort of agreement to "mitigate" the effect of the law, including amending that law, why should that not happen with contractors?

Will be a parallel story to keep abreast if I think.

A spokesman for HMRC said it would not comment on individual cases, but added HMRC would be ‘supportive’ of people who were genuinely caught out.
Right.... supportive.... As supportive as HMRC have been to all the APN recipients?

Yet more victims of poor advice... Why are they not getting rid of the source of these problems!?

In this case, almost everybody who advises on pensions is (or should be) regulated. As such victims will have recourse to insurance policies and statutory compensation in many cases.

The latter is funded by the IFA's etc and they regularly moan about the "good" firms paying for the "bad".

I suggest therefore that the "good" firms put together a scheme that doesn't allow "bad" firms a look in.
