See FCSA doubts 'bogus self-employment' claims :: Contractor UK

so hands up who knew there else as well as IPSE that claims to represent us.

And why do I think they have never seen CAB's actual report and have only commented on the press release...

The two pictures on their website look like they ought to be on the front of the UKIP page not on one of a body that should be representing a wide range of people

I guess they met their quota of bald guys to keep the PC crowd happy though

Yep, seems I could change the title to

"Biased body claiming to represent users of contractors can't see the problem because its in their interest to ignore it".

Technically they dont represent "us" as in contractors and freelanceers, they are a trade body for contract and freelance service providers - Umbrella Co.'s , Accountants, Payroll providers etc.

Their press release does say they are "commenting on the report".

I would have thought they were worth engaging with from our side, as their members clients, if possible.

The more sides of the argument we have covered and the more unified the response the more chance we have of it being taken seriously.

I've heard of them (but only because someone mentioned them the other day and I googled them)

Given that I have both the CUK article and the CAB report to hand shall I just say that I don't think the FCSA are accurate in their statement. Put it this way I would love to know how anyone can read the report and state

But the consumer body doesn’t seem to think that status is a “very complex issue”, as stated by Ms Kermode. In particular, the report says “defining self-employment status is straightforward.”

when the only time the report says that is to state that for some people its very easy. In fact it says the exact opposite multiple times and explicitly states that one big problem is that even the government doesn't have a definition of what self-employment means.

Now I'm sure that when I eventually chat to the FCSA we may have a commonish viewpoint that we can work from. I don't however think misrepresenting a report in a way that a simple 5 second word search shows is inaccurate does them any favours..

FCSA was set up about 8 or 9 years ago I think by Giant, Brookson and Parasol; they organised umbrella audits before then accepting other umbrella companies as members. In the last few months they have accepted accountancy firms and affiliates.
