    notice periods on contracts

    Hi All

i am about to sign a contract with an agency for a 3 month contract with a client. The client (according to the agent) has requested a notice period of 1 month on this contract. Is this a normal notice period? I was under the impression that the notice period on contracts was usually between 1 and 2 weeks. Any thoughts on this?

    thanks

There ain't no rules. If you want a two week period, then ask if it can be done. If it can't, then fine, it's your decision if a month is acceptable.

Only thing is, be sure to stick to whatever the (final) contract says. I know of someone who gave me two weeks notice out of a contractual four. The client ensured he did one more day, then went on an involuntary 19 days unpaid leave to work out his notice period, By then the original role had gone...

Ask for whatever contract you want and then negotiate it.

Beware though, stupid lengthy notice periods can make you look like a permy.

To wit, mine is for me to give them a month's notice and for them to give me a day's notice.

Mine is a month either way. The only reason they can get rid of me with no notice is if I screw up big time! Being the consumate professional I am that aint ever gonna happen :rollin

Personally I think it depends on the length of the contract. When I kept getting my contract renewed I had a weeks notice period, where as in a 6 month contract I have a months notice period after the first month.

It's all about negotiation though, think of what the best option is for you.

            No notice clauses

Anyone got advice on no notice clauses. Been happy with mine and enjoyed 18 months of good solid work for the client. Unfortunately shortly after negotiating another 6 months, the organisation has gone tits up, and have brought in our favourite consultancy firm. Things have gone down hill since, and now its an impossible place to work.

I would like to give my client a reasonable notice period say 2 weeks or a month, but they are being a pain at the moment
