    IPSE Futures email

OK, I'll throw myself in the lions den here but... **** it....

What are peoples opinions on the IPSE Futures mail? I haven't asked my account, I've not done any research and I am a ******* moron. I just don't normally have much to do with the IPSE stuff. Just pay my yearly sub and that's it so wondering if this is another offering that many companies do where you can find better if you go get it yourself?

Any of it worth looking at or speaking to an FA about it?

I normally get a lot of flack and generally am happy to do so. On this occasion could we stick to the offering as I am sure I am not the only one wondering about this?

Didn't get an email, but have seen the details on the site.

The pension is a rip-off; their specially negotiated low rate is higher than anything in this table: Compare the UK’s cheapest online brokers. It is probably cheaper than many of the schemes marketed in the past through commission-based IFAs.

As I'm sure will be pointed out shortly, SIPPS &c are not directly comparable to insurance company schemes, since the latter offer an extra layer of guys driving around in BMWs.

The following scheme, which is also from Aegon, is better as long as you have more than £50K invested Cavendish : Aegon (Personal). Possibly the scheme is intended for the new, more impecunious, breed of IPSE member, who really wishes they were in a permanent job.

As for Life Insurance; it goes without saying that it is a good thing, up to a point. Remember that if/when you leave IPSE, you will be older than you are now, and getting new life insurance - assuming you still need it - will be rather more expensive. No doubt the marketing of this scheme will allude to the tax savings to be made; remember that signing up to this scheme is not the only way of saving the tax on £2.80 a month; you could always go for a pint and put it down as "subsistence".

Medical Insurance I have no opinion on; I don't currently have it, and even when I did it never seemed to include the really useful stuff such as private GP service.

I don't have an IFA, as it happens I think they're all charlatans. However, I suspect that given that you do, you are likely to be "well protected" already. This is of course unrelated to the fact that whilst they are now banned from receiving commission on investment products, this doesn't apply to insurance.

EDIT: Having read the blurb, I don't think the life cover is much cop either; I had thought policies where the insurer could revise the premium every year went out with Fred Flintstone, but it's clear there are segments of the market where they still exist

Well, I'm convinced now that signing up to PGC what almost immediately after I did sign became IPSE was a waste of time and money, hopefully it doesn't auto-renew, and hopefully I can get ASAP out anyway, because I really cannot see the point of it.....

Prefer My Own Two Feet thank you very much...

How anyone can say this IPSE change of tack is beneficial I've no idea. Im out.

Stek is not crying, Stek is leaving. It wasn't hard to deduce from Stek's post tbh.

Fair enough, but it's easy to get on the CC and actually change Ipse if you have the gumption to do so

If you join the AA and don't like them, what do you do?

              a. Bang your head against a brick wall or
              b. Tell them to bog off and give your money to RAC or Green Flag.

              Which is easiest?

That's hardly an answer. People can be unhappy at organisations and can voice it. Telling them to get shares in it and change it doesn't really work.

It would be interesting to learn how much the annual membership is being subsidised by this flogging of financial services and vouchers for discounted Krispy Kremes.

I think I'd be happier if it were £50 more and they stuck to their knitting viz. IR35 defence and contract templates etc. I do remember that there were "PCG affiliated" businesses back in the day, but they tended not to be in the Krispy Kreme business and certainly weren't PCG co-branded.

You're assuming IPSE is still in the IR35 defence business for IT and Engineering contractors. They are, but are aiming to provide a cradle-to-grave service for freelance workers, minimising the problems of dealing with organisations that only think in terms of employers and salaried employees.

If you don't like or want the add-ons, or believe there's a better alternative, then don't buy them; but the core service remains as strong and commercially justifiable as it always has.

And all the services offered by IPSE are cost neutral (or return a profit of their own) or they don't start. They are never funded from members subs.
