    Car Rental

New gig down south means working away in the week. Driving is the only real option as the train journey is 5 hours plus on a good day.

Looking at the option of renting a car at the client end as a weekend rental to drive home, pick up Friday, drop off Monday, rather than buying or leasing one.

Anyone got any recommendation for hire companies hiring on a business basis rather than personal. Enterprise are the only ones I've really used but no idea what the Business service is like.

Why business rental? It may more profitable to claim mileage for 45p a mile...

Don't really want the hassle of buying and running a second car just for this gig when it will only get driven twice a week. Time scale means I don't have the luxury of being able to wait for the right car to turn up, I need one by the end of the week. The cost savings over 6 months are marginal and I'd rather spend a bit extra and avoid any potential reliability and maintenance issues (or at least hand them to someone else).

It also means everything goes straight through the company so no messing about with milage logs etc.

I used to have a business account with Avis. When I booked I used to call the Business Line and normally got discounts that you couldn't get online.

        Which gig did you get?

May life give you what you need, rather than what you want....

I looked at that trip, makes my current one look like a picnic. Good Luck.

I worked out tonight I've done 27,500 miles in the last 12 months.

I don't think eek was suggesting you buy a car. More that you rent a car personally and claim the 45p per mile.

Yep. Assuming you haven't gone over 10,000 miles this year you get 45p a mile for every mile driven. It quickly (probably at about 150 miles) becomes more tax efficient to pay the car hire personally and just charge the mileage to the company.

It really depends on how cheap the car you hire is....

EXACTLY. Doesnt matter how you've got the car, whether its your, rented, leased, borrowed, stolen you can claim 45p.

As eek says, might be better rent personally and claim 45p.

I just rent the car through MyCo. Put all the petrol, tolls and any associated costs through too. Negates all the claiming back hassle.
