Thoughts on crowd funding for legal challenges

I'm interested to know what everyone thinks on crowdfunding. There are two possible legal challenges that I'd help fund. One is a bog standard EBT scheme at the FTT and the other is a JR on APN's.

What does everybody think about using something like Crowdfund ANY Project with GoFundMe >>

They would need to be stared by credible individuals.

Well it's a novel use of crowdfunding.

I'd be wary of fees for the platform used which will have to be met.

In terms of action to be funded, a JR challenge against APN is probably capable of a class action approach. It would be necessary to have some form of case management hearing first in order that all parties know and accept that a single JR could include more than one scheme. This might also have to include schemes that have APN's in issue and those that don't but are anticipated.

A case to FTT (and beyond) on an EBT (or a variant) would be much more specific. It would be necessary for HMRC to agree - before litigation commences - that a case could be regarded as a test case that binds others. That may not be as easy as you think and I would expect HMRC to resist.

I'm wondering therefore whether "investors" would be willing to fund a program that may not be directly relevant?

Perhaps a plan to have a central "hub" to deal with admin and common matters and separate scheme specific funds to contribute to the "hub" and also to fight specific issues might be better?

    (No, me neither).

      Crowd Funding

If crowd funding worked and we got 5000 people out of the 43000 to contribute then they wouldn't have to put in too much each to get a decent fund to fight HMRC
