Finally made the jump from permie to contract

Hi to all on this excellent site, one I've been reading thoroughly over the last year or so.

I have finally made the leap from BT into (for me) the unknown, having secured an initial contract to start in January and just have to work thorough my notice period. It was a wrench giving up a reasonably well paid job, car and perks, but it simply wasn't going anywhere for me.

So I move from one job in which I travel around the country designing and implementing Cisco networks to a self-employed role which, apart from the lack of job security and method of payment I don't expect will be that much different. In fact the first role will probably have less traveling, and certainly less nights away from home so even better. I'm under no illusion that it may evaporate before the start date, but that's a risk I have to take, not much I can do about that as I see it.

    Cheers

    Andy
