Questions about umbrella company

Hi there,

I'm French and I moved to London three month ago.

I'm actually working on websites and mobile applications as an employe, but this is very boring.

I have a few customers in France but I don't know hot to bill them. I read this post. An umbrella company looks like much more easier, but I don't really like the time sheet system. I like to bill what I want with no time tracking. I also need an umbrella company which can bill customers in pound but also in euro.

Is it better to create a limited company and pay an accountant service ?

Second point I have not enough customers actually, is there good way to find them ?

Would your French customers accept you as self-employed? If so you can do it that way.

You just have to register as self-employed with HMRC. It's not very tax efficient but least you can work immediately.

If you do then get more customers and have to form a company you can then do so. You don't have to charge VAT until you reach the threshold of £81,000 a year.

If the work that you are doing is irregular then an umbrella company would not be the best option for you - as SueEllen said - if the companies you are working with will accept you operating as a sole trader then that would be your easiest way forward until you have an established business

If your work is ad-hoc (or random) the best way to do it is as a sole trader.

Only if they require you to work through another legal entity should you consider using an umbrella company. That's because it will cost you more in fees.

I'd be very surprised if you could find an umbrella company that would employ you under those circumstances to be honest - you would be better working as a sole trader if you can

I read so different things on the internet, if for exemple I want to buy a computer or I take the taxi, did the umbrella can give me taxes back ?

There is too much umbrella companies in London, is there a classement or something like that to chose ?

Je pense que c'est mieux si je reponde en Francais (c'est n'est pas bon mais je pense que vous avez besoin de comprendre le situation) . Un 'umbrella company' n'est pas le meilleur option pour vous parce que, habituellement, ils ne travaillent pas avec les personne qui avez travail ad hoc.
