    Would you ?

I'm happy with my current gig but just been offered another gig elsewhere for an extra 100 per day

Distance is the same but would have to catch train

WFH I do now but not allowed in this other job

Would you leave for extra money but lose WFH ?

Depends on a few factors i) how much do you value working from home ? ii) how much more is £100/day in relative terms, ie are you a £1K/day programme manager or a £100/day helpdesk analyst ? iii) how long would the train journey be, 20mins or 2 hrs each way ?

For me ability to wfh is invaluable and I would make the most of it while you can (you have children ?). So to answer your question, I would not leave for £100 more and then lose wfh (but I have small children). However, only you can really make that decision based on your circumstances.

Does it matter what we would do?

I personally prefer not working from home (other than the odd day if I need to go to the dentist or whatever, which I'm sure most places would accommodate) so from a monetary point of view, it's a no brainer.

That being said, I'm not in the mind to quit a role half way through, unless there are extreme circumstances.

It's a bit pointless to gather other people opinions, when the only opinion that matters is yours. You have laid down the facts already, now it's time to man up and take a decision for yourself.

On top of that you omitted quite a lot of important factors as how long the commute is, WFH > 2h commute + £100, but again that depends on your current rate there is a big difference between £100+£100 and £400+£100. Not to mention the nature of the work and the culture between the 2 roles. Personally i would prefer a lower rate if that means better culture and less stress due to morons interfering with my work.

Yeah ok, but sometimes it's useful to bounce ideas/gauge opinion...which is sometimes what this forum is used for, isn't it?

If it was me would all depend on how commute is now and which would mine and my families life better. i.e. £100/day or mw WFH.

So length of current commute comes into it as does financial situation and future plans.

Of course, sometimes better to take a slightly longer term view as well. i.e. Is it technology that'll get you better gigs in the future even if rate is slight lower now? All things to think of.

Would I think of anything else including this deluded idea that I can't serve notice which is contractually allowed in case I 'upset' the client. Would I bollax. Sorry its all about me and my family and thats it.

Trains are unreliable in this country especially in winter. Frozen signals, leaves on the line, cracked rails...

So, for an extra 500 quid a week you're undecided? And its the same distance? WTF? WFH for 500 quid a week less?

Let me think about this, nah, I wouldnt need to think. But there again, I wouldnt ask a friend what to do either!

I really dont know how some people run their lives, I really dont.
