    Morning denizens

    Grey start out

But not raining and not chilly, so that's not too bad

The epic trek southwards begins in a couple of hours or less

        France, for a few hours

Tomorrow is the hundredth anniversary of the start of the Battle of Estaires, part of the German Spring Offensive. My Great Uncle James was killed on that day while serving with the 55th (West Lancashire) Infantry Division, and is buried in the Guards Cemetery at Windy Corner, Cuinchy, not far from what was the front line at Festubert. So myself and other family members are visiting his grave.

          A nice thing to do.

My Great Uncle is commemorated here.

I've got the commemoration scroll thing that was given to his family at the time.

Now in a hotel somewhere in Kent. Not sure where; my cousin booked it, and drove us here

I went to secondary school in Kent (Medway). Although I imagine you're closer to the tunnel end.

My aunt still lives in Faversham, but I haven't been down there for a couple of years. As she's 93 I probably shouldn't leave it too long.

I did have a trip to Kent in January for ex's mother's funeral, but chose not to hang around longer than was strictly necessary

I'm a couple of miles north of Ashford, apparently. We crossed over the Medway on the way
