Default HMRC Scheme Enquiries: Network One

    Hi folks

I stumbled on this forum when I was looking on the internet in a state of panic

I hope this is the correct place for this.

I have also received an income tax assessment for 2011 - 2012. I was contracting under a company called Network One.

I was wondering if anyone else here used Network One and if they had received any information from them? I have been trying for two days and can't get a response to any e-mails or telephone calls.

I have two weeks to respond to HMRC and have no idea what to do.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

Yes I had the dreaded brown envelope from HMRC over the weekend - a tax assessment for 2011-2012.

I've not tried to get in touch with Network One yet but will be doing so in the next couple of days.

We are not alone, there are others I am hearing about who were also with Network One having the same problem.

You are most definitely not alone.

Contact you provider first to see what their response will be. Also consider looking at reading as much as you can to consider all your options. Big Group is a great source of help too and independent of scheme providers.

Network One is obviously front and centre for HMRC at the moment.

If you get ANYTHING, go and get some advice.

Network One have a draft response which you will have to ask for and make a judgement on.

If you don't wish to rely on that, get some independent advice.

Whatever you do, ignoring the communication is not recommended.

If anyone has a copy of the draft response that Network One I would really appreciate it if you could pm me with it. I have been trying to get hold of them by phone and email but with no joy. I guess they are inundated with queries at the moment.

You might find fellow Network One clients / ex-clients at Big Group.

Advice can be got from any competent accountant or tax adviser. I would say however that if you got into the scheme via one of the above, don't go back to them as they are potentially conflicted.

This is however a specialist area and whilst the appeal and postponement application in itself is straightforward, dealing with the next level of enquiry is not.

To do that requires some expertise and access to knowledge and history.

There are rules here about promoting any particular firms so I suggest that you have a look around and see who is being used.

    Default Network One Response

I'm also caught by the HMRC review. Has anyone yet had the official response from Network One they could PM me?

Also can anyone tell me if Quantum/Endeavour/Network One have ever had a DOTAS number as I have never seen one in any documentation I've received.

    Thanks

Default 2011/2012 Tax Avoidance Assessment - HMRC Enquiry

    Hello All,

I am new to this forum and have have come home today to the dreaded brown envelope. I will provide some background on my situation and would appreciate any help or advice.

I had contracted between 2007-2013 to one client company using Network One and from year to year had been moved on to 'other' companies to facilitate my payroll (by Net One) lastly with Quantum.

Foolishly I thought all was above board and legal. Prior to 2007 I had not contracted and since leaving the client company stopped contracting.

Today I have opened a letter from HMRC stating I have been part of a tax avoidance scheme and owe unpaid tax for year 2011-2012. The letter states this is their assessment. To say I am nervous is an understatement and I am completely shocked.

I am unsure what my next steps should be and would appreciate some guidance and advice.

A couple of questions I have:

    1. Can HMRC look back beyond 2011-2012? If so, how far back? I just need to understand the true cost of this. On the FAQ they say they can look at 'other' years but some years may be out of date.

    2. Is it worth me appealing?

    Many Thanks in advance.

    NG
