Pound takes a battering

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7764425.stm

The British pound has fallen to a historic low against the euro in the run-up to the Bank of England's one percentage point cut in interest rates.

The pound dropped to 1.1499 euros, the lowest level since the creation of the eurozone currency in 1999.

Enjoy the money you'll save on interest payments. It's worthless anyway.

I've hit the Nationwide life of loan tracker floor of 2.75% of course if they go down more I'll be moaning about this.

Anyone on a 6% fixed rate that I can laugh at?

Exactly it's great if you have a large mortgage you can't afford to pay and you like holidaying in England. As depositors are effectively paying for the fheckless, how low before a mass run on deposits? Thus forcing emergency rises?

My sister-in-law has three BTL properties on fixed rate (10 year!) mortgages at about 5%.

Or you have a modest mortgage that you want to overpay and have a baby so were planning on holidaying in the UK anyway.

I've got a 20 year fixed at 5% (been on it for 6 years).

But you could go to Iceland. We went to Iceland in September last year; it would now cost just half as it did to go there again this year. But, everyone there probably hates us now.
