Too much insight here. Move along.

Certainly, although regulate rather than nationalise. I'm always a'feared when Labour control money. It just seems to leak away...

Also, instead of funding that dubious VAT cut, hire more staff to bring immigration back under control.

Why doesn't the government set up a massive work project to build a huge windfarm? Similarly to the Hoover Dam project in the US, this could provide:
  • A big boost to spending in the economy which could be paid for through borrowing
  • A big boost to employment in planning / designing / deploying the wind farm
  • An asset which the government could use to generate an income to pay back the funds borrowed - through selling wholesale energy back into the grid
  • A reduction to fossil fuel usage

Presumably they could also look to build hydroelectic power plants etc too?

We should get the Severn Barrage built. It could supply something like 6% of our electrical energy and if built properly might last hundreds or thousands of years. It could also store excess power from less reliable / intermittent sources, and in this case could return more power than is put in (by pumping water up at high tide, and letting it flow out through turbines at low tide).

A good start would be to stop paying the EU 55 Billion pounds a year for membership and to base public sector pensions on their employee contributions...... and sack a million of those in non-jobs and put them on the dole because it will be cheaper than paying them to do nothing.

EO's brainy idea.

What is it we are trying to achieve here ?

1 get all those lazy bums doing something
2 a low cost option
3 Something that will generate a steady income for thousands of years
4 Something that puts the country on the map
5 Something visible, to be proud of
6 Something visible from space would be good

A Pyramid.
The great pyramid of Bootle, to house the mortal remains of one of CUKs greatest posters.
