I thought the pubs were going to be full of people who wanted a smoke free atmosphere? Where were all those customers gagging for the ban and a smoke free pint? Oh Yeah, this is Britain, a country full of patronising idiots, happy to stick their nose into into other peoples business while having no intention of participating.
Like I predicted the smoking ban is killing pubs.

I never really understood why HM Gov. didn't go for the extraction system approach. They could have allowed smoking in any public place and cleverly insist upon an army of regulators, thus cashing in on a raft of revenue wheezes. But, nope: they banned it without thought and now boarded-up pubs are everywhere.
And another thing: why are open air train platforms smoke-free zones? They are outdoors!

I think the smoking ban was actually good for pub business, most of the pubs I know got a lot more trade in the early evening with people going for a quick meal and a couple of pints.
20 or 30 years ago drinking at home was frowned upon, now home drinking makes up about 80% of drink trade. That is the real reason for pubs closing.

For once - I totally agree with you.
When I was on the piss 'most' pub regulars were smokers. These regulars were the bread and butter of the trade. If they have now gone, all the little 'old man' boozers that I used will go down for sure.

But at least it's not killing the pub staff.
It's lovely to get home from the pub and realise you can actually wear the same jeans/jumper the next day.

One problem I find as pubs do not smell of smoke is you can smell everything else.
Sweaty people who come in stright from work.
The toilets - always get a wiff of Jeyes fluid.

Simple. Only employ heavy smokers in pubs.

How, then, do you explain the direct correlation between the smoking ban and hundreds of pubs suddenly shutting their doors for good?
