I suspect that if NL times it right they can win the next general election.
I think in the coming months we are going to be bombarded with stories showing how it is not Golden Clowns fault that the world economy has gone tits up and how well placed we Brits are placed to take advantage of an upturn.
NL will blame all the UKs woes on global issues and will claim any successes as their own prudence. The will point to the Tories saying it is the likes of them that have caused the global melt down.

Maybe, but first of all they would have to lengthen the maximum term of office from the current 5 years to a more exciting 20 years. They would also have to hope that they can develop a serum that they can add to tap water that will remove all logic from the populace. This, you will be scared to know, has already been very successfully trialled in some labour heartlands.

Well, it's not fair to blame GB for the world economy. Considering how many countries, with different political parties leading them, are having similar problems, it raises the question of if anything could have been done.

Also, I really don't get why GB is being lambasted for his performance as PM when if he is to blame, it must be his time as chancellor that is more significant to the current problems. I thought he was generally regarded as doing an OK kind of job in that role... in fact maybe it's going wrong because he ISN'T doing that job any more?

Yes I also predict an unexpected and undeserved NL victory - Brown will be the nationalisation saviour - watch out for a move to Nationalise the Housing Market as the next step to NLs complete control and command of the UK.

He cannot have it both ways. He claimed to be responsible for sound management and the steady growth of the UK economy. This is despite inheriting a strong economy from ythe Major government preceeded by the unshackling of the socialist grip by Maggie.

Few people are stupid enough to let him get away with this. secondly he has presided over the disposal of huge amounts of tax payers money for virtually no return, effectively making those who have benefited from his largesse to expect more, and those of us having paid it out finding ourselves living in a more overcrowded, violent and expensive society.

No one is blaming him for the world economic position, just farking up the UK's economy.

And as for being a reasonable PM, it seems to me everything he touches turns to shit...

You are failing to take into account the stupidity of the uk population. He will get away with it if he can get the media onside and they will tell everybody so many times that it wasn't his fault until it becomes 'true'

I tend to agree - the same population that voted Blair in after the Iraq debacle will vote NL again after this crises - as Brown said - this is no time for a novice.

Perhaps he really was responsible for sound management and the steady growth of the UK economy, and now the greedy deregulated bankers really are responsible for its downfall?
