I would have thought some of the really expensive places in Surrey would be ideal. Leafy and very expensive (no Chavs) and quick routes into London.

£700K will buy you a starter home for your family to grow in and school fees a very reasonable £20K a year.

Guildford. Half an hour to Waterloo, good schools, nice countryside around, pretty cobbled high street.

realityhack, could you be totally freelance and work from home? I do like London but I couldn't live there, raising childen in the countryside has to be the way to go.

From Guildford station.

Add on the commute to get to the station and general related faff of about 20-30 mins if you live in one of the outlying villages.
