If you are too lazy to reclaim your deposit it costs more.

Can't we just go back to glass?

It works fine in NL. They use thicker plastic. At old client co the used bottles went back into the delivery crates.
At the supermarkets you drop the bottles into a machine that gives you a receipt for the refund.

At the village shop near my villa, they keep ice cold bottle beer in the display fridge, although there is a theoretical deposit
for the bottles, I don't pay it because I return the bottles next visit.

          Tax, levy, duty, (sur)charge...

And now we'll have a "deposit scheme"

How is it a tax? The government doesn't get the money. The retailer does.

The consumer ends up paying more. Well the feckless consumer does.

Well Overdue. As others have said its not a tax. Take the bottles back and you get your money back.

It's a tax because Govt will force you to pay it, does not matter if the money go to charity or retailer.
