God, sounds like some Orwellian, dystopian scenario.

Added to that, the safespace snowflake generation will be running the show.

Wonder where free speech will be then?

Yes it sounds like a great idea in theory, but as Waldorf said, there aren't enough "rich" people to pay for it, despite Labour's assertions that taxing people on £80k+ is sufficient. I call BS on that.
Is that UK domiciled and full paying rich people? I'm not sure how many of those there are. I've heard Jezza say that if we were to close the offshore loopholes and get multinationals/super rich to just pay what owe there would be no need to increase anyone's taxes and we'd have so much money everything would be golden.

Corbyn also suggests big business should be stripped of massive tax breaks and subsidies that currently total £93 billion a year. He says this money could be better spent on public investment, which would in turn stimulate the private sector.

Detailed analysis conducted in 2014 by left-leaning economist and tax expert Richard Murphy indicates the government loses £120 billion in tax revenues annually. The £120 billion figure is made up of £20 billion in tax debt, £20 billion in tax avoidance and £80 billion in tax evasion.

He probably has as much chance of achieving this as Donnie does of 'draining the swamp' but the next election will be interesting - especially if things keep getting progressively worse for the snowflake generation.

This robot/AI thing is real and isn't going to go away. Things will probably get very ugly within our lifetimes if there isn't some sort of transition toward UBI. It probably won't help much being well off when there are marauding hordes of angry people dragging 'the rich' out of their wine cellars and off to the guillotine.

Universal basic income would cost billions £££ to implement and run. And that's before you consider how much money it would pay out or how it would be funded.

What makes anyone think it's even remotely a good idea?!

The fact that automation is depleting the job market. Capitalism is eating itself - to the point where it is killing of the purchasing power of its own customers.

Of course it will be expensive to implement and with things being the way they currently are (incompetent corrupt government and massive tax avoidance/evasion by big businesses) of course 'we can't afford it'.

Tell that to a horde of rioting snowflakes when they smash down your front door...

If you think that is the answer then you should join Labour's economics team, you'll be at home there!

Unemployment rate lowest since 1975. Could get even better after Brexit. Snowflakes will be too busy working in Amazon warehouses to bash down my front door.

Or a utopian liberal scenario seen in many Sci-Fi stories... the masses are freed from the drudgery of work by the robots leaving only those with particular passion or aptitude for high-level or creative tasks to work.

                      Seems pretty likely, right?
