Yes it was. It was also crippled by the power the unions had over day-to-day life. The Callaghan government did nothing about that apart from strengthening the unions further. And now ignorant people are demanding a government that fully intends taking us back to that utopia by deleting the laws that keep the unions out of the way of the real world. Or haven't you read their manifesto?

Dream on, the "only for the few" brigade are the sodding unions, nobody else. You want to be led my Unison and its unrepresentative leaders telling their puppet administration what to do then you carry on. I'll stick with the people who won the most votes thanks.

Like I said, Tories only interested in themselves.

        Snouts in the trough.
Well save the government the hassle and give them your money then?

Not sure what you are waiting for - socialism could be yours today.

I care about those less fortunate than me - if they demonstrate they are trying hard to stop being less fortunate.

I do, I've given thousands to my extended family to help them get by.

It's the big corporates who pay less tax than my Ltd Co, who need to cough up.

Well the UK is going to be leaving the EU, this is going to lead to a drop in living standards, Nurses got a 1% pay this year with inflation running at over 2% thx to the drop in the pound, with a Labour government well to do owners of small businesses will pay more tax to help these people out. After all a lot of them voted for Brexit knowing full well what the consequences would be. It's only fair.

              I'm alright Jack

Ignorance I can live with. Stupidity? Meh....

I'm starting from 1971, pregnant girlfriend, no accommodation, bugger all income, no social support for housing or anything else, £7 a week free after rent. I'm rather better off these days. However, apart from one small loan from my parents to buy a car we've done it by ourselves. In the last few years I've seen family friends in the same position as I was whining on how they only have a two bed house and only £210 a week child allowance on top of their own social payments. I don't need lecturing on how hard it is, then or now, thanks; I've f***ing lived it.

                      Apart from free university education?

And maybe a cheap council house?

                      I'm all for benefits reform.

But I would like to see the big corporates and super rich pay more taxes so that we can have more police on the street to fight terrorism, more teachers so that class sizes are kept under 30, and more carers to wipe the arses of the dribbling boomers who have most of the money.
