Can the UK afford to be an independent nation?

    £1.7 trillion in debt.

£35.5 billion trade deficit in the last 12 months alone

Westminster government repeats an independent Scotland would not work. Irony with bells on.

Doesn't make the UK government incorrect though.

The UK has always been an independent nation. The question is whether the UK can:

      1. Afford to leave the single market and custom's union?
      2. Rely on WTO rules?

It has technically surrendered some of its sovereignty to the EU.

So less independent than say The United States.

If we had strong overseas ties with US we might* repeat Canada success? The only problem is Canada has resources, low population , and is border away from US. So per capita it's easy to build wealth.

I just don't see how this Brexit would work . Isolationism never brought anything good in history. Commonly led to wars , or economic collapse in longer term.

We shall see how you'll pull this off

I guess retaining access to EU should be top priority, with some restrictions on right to work (NI granting would be skill based), but no restrictions on travel.

That is not true, because at any point the UK parliament could pass an act of parliament in a single day to withdraw from the EU. If sovereignty had been surrendered, parliament would not be able to do so without the EU's permission.

We are leaving a corrupt & vindictive organisation that we were never allowed to vote on not moving to the moon.

These words should be engraved on the official Brexit plaque.

I note that wasn't added until later on.

Also it seems quite difficult to trigger article 50 in a day.

Don't forget the 2 year one way notice period.
