Apparently Thames Valley police won't chase shop lifters in Hungerford, Berkshire if they steal less than £100 worth of goods.

Easy - when calling the Police to report shoplifting say it's more than £100, when they arrive on site and find out it's less than £100 claim it was an honest mistake

That would be a crime in itself (incitement or conspiracy) and probably serious enough to get attention.

I just want to know what the rules are. Is walking out of and back into a shop enough to reset it, or do I need to visit different shops in sequence? Am I only allowed £99.99 every 10 minutes? Do I necessarily need to declare it on my self-assessment, or is it like selling on ebay?
