Utility bills gone through the roof. Blame Brexit?

    https://www.theguardian.com/business...y-smart-meters

    Two questions:
Did one of you lot wrote the code for smart meters?
And has anyone got one of these things yet? Any good ? (Very rhetorical in light of the story in the link).

I wasnt involved but my understanding is that it was user error. the customer shaftaslider was moved too far towards the shafted end.

There is no real value proposition for the customer, just for the utility company at the mo, insofar that they don't have to pay meter readers salaries.

Until there are open source IoT/M2M standards for products comparable to Nest, and until these services are subsidised and integrated by the utility companies who reap the economies of the smart meters but don't pass them on to their customers, I'll pass.

How come nobody has figured out how to hack these things to signal a much lower electricity usage? Come on chaps, sure we could do it.

            Smart meters are absolutely useless.

We were conned into getting one by our now ex-energy provider Npower who told us it was a legal requirement Although plugged in, we didn't have the display switch on as it's an annoying PITA.

And when we moved to another provider it stopped working anyway.

They are a complete waste of space and money.

Yep I had the same kind of pressure put on me but just ignored it. Must have had about 10 calls trying to get me to say yes.

Bad for old people too. My mother has one, and she obsesses over whether she's exceeded her £0.92 average of energy per day. It's carnage when I visit and triple her daily limit

Which is why we don't bother with it.

We turn out lights when we're not in a room, have a new gas boiler, don't have the telly on stand-by when we aren't using it and don't double-boil our water.

And if I want a bath, I'll bloody well have one - I'm not a pauper.

I'm not getting OCD by obsessing over the bloody thing.

Exactly, and it's amazing how it turns you into an obsessive.
