Unfortunately, sprouts are on the menu despite my best efforts.

      Seeing family tomorrow, Boxing Day.

Went for an "all you can eat" Christmas lunch buffet in a Ghurka restaurant with some friends. Surprisingly good, although most of the veg was only a vague approximation of traditional British Christmas veg, and there were no sprouts, or Christmas pud!

I thought I was greedy, but some of the other diners, even kids, had plates piled incredibly high, like pyramids, and went back for seconds!

Bit of a first here. Successful Xmas lunch, power still on, no drama, no tantrums, no smoke from the scullery.

Still, the day's not over yet.......

So far, both the MIL and FIL have at separate times shouted at or smacked my son for what they have seen as 'bad behaviour' and again made comments that he's not been raised right, even though hes been diagnosed with Autism and a sensory issue. Both times he overeacted over something, one a firework going off above him which made him melt down and when someone tried to hold him he hit out, the second when excited he jumped into the MIL and she smacked him across the face because he hurt her in his misplaced exuberance. My own mother is Also at our house. No idea what we were thinking.

I started to avoid the parents in law about a year ago. I have decided not to drink over the holiday, as I swear to God if I do somebody is not, going to make it out of my house alive this Xmas.

Please feel free to vent / share with us how much you hate having family for Xmas.
If anyone shouted or laid a hand on my kids, no matter who you are, would be leaving on a stretcher. Have a drink MF, and do the right thing.

I hope your son gives MIL and FIL a good kicking. They deserve it.

Poor kid. He should be kept away from people like that.

Sometimes others kids need a shouting at for their own safety. Or would you rather have your kids run over or fall off something while you weren't watching*?

However slapping a kid especially on the face deserves the same action back much harder.

*It isn't your fault you weren't watching btw.

There's shouting for their safety ("watch out, shark!") and shouting because you're an arse ("oi, shut up brat, stop behaving like a child")

Managed to struggle through mine with the in laws. Brother in law is a right berk, so that's always unpleasant. Hopefully that will be my only in law visit this holidays.
