    This is an emerging field, and;

    - I don't know if 23andme are geared up to report on it yet
    - I don't know if 23andme would send you follow-up reports as the influence of more genes is picked up in future
    - The NHS has a '100,000 Genome Project' looking at 'personalised medicine' which covers this area

I hope you've managed to get a CAMHS referral for your son? I wouldn't leave a GP to deal with it.

I imagine you already found this: King's College London - ADHD Genetics Group
Thanks a good link and something I've seen elsewhere but I'll take a look at this tomorrow.

Right now, I'll take anything though.

DS1 in his second half term at Junior School had turned from loving child with supposed ADHD (and medication for it) into a danger to himself, others and in an adult you would assume was mentally impaired. On Friday, he was picked up by the police having lost the plot at school & running away from it.

In just 4 weeks I've gone from a child who had a little issues with inattention, to his lunchtime held back the next day, to trashing the school library, the class 5 times, two class evacuations and finally an escape from school across main roads. I found him outside of my house with two teachers in two and the police not far behind. I have been called to the school 11 times in 3 weeks. They were going to exclude him on Friday because leaving school is a major issue. He's 7.

This corresponded with a change and update in his medication for ADHD after a GP changed it, and now a trip to a specialist, who now thinks he may be allergic to certain food groups and it a misdiagnosis but we need to try that out. His personality has changed majorly in the last 4/5 weeks from being inattentive and a little demanding who was noisy in class, to a mini Charles Bronson/Begsby. The DNA Profiling is to identify ADHD traits and see if they are there or not.

If not, and it turns out that overtime it's something else that the NHS should have tried first I am going to sue the tulip out them. If it turns out to be bad parenting, then I may as well beat the tulip out of the missus.

What repercussions have there been to that behaviour.

            Hey MF,

Serious question, there isn't anything else that is going on, is there?

Some friends have a son similar age who is a bit of a handful, at the best of times, he then got a lot worse.
They then found out he was been bullied at school.......

My lad did 23 and me. As I recall, the results were unimpressive.

You expect "You have KJ76L which means you will have ankylosing spondylitis". What you get is "You have KJ76L which means you have an additional 4.5% chance of getting ankylosing spondylitis".

Genes are a wonderful idea but beware: they are complex in their action and interaction with other genes, and only a small part of our chromosomes are what we call genes. The vast majority is other stuff that people initially said was 'junk' but more and more are thinking twice about that.

Here's Wikipedia on just one of the other things, (SINEs):

Short Interspersed Nuclear Elements are short DNA sequences (<500 bases) that represent reverse-transcribed RNA molecules originally transcribed by RNA polymerase III into transfer RNA, 5S ribosomal RNA, and other small nuclear RNAs. The mechanism of retrotransposition of these elements is more complicated than LINEs, and less dependent solely on the actual elements that they encode. SINEs do not encode a functional reverse transcriptase protein and rely on other mobile elements for transposition. In some cases they may have their own endonuclease that will allow them to cleave their way into the genome, but the majority of SINEs integrate at chromosomal breaks by using random DNA breaks to prime reverse transcriptase. With about 1,500,000 copies, SINEs make up about 11% of the human genome.

Also check it isn't a teacher who is picking on him.

I have no experience or medical qualifications but i would bin all the drugs, no way should prescribed drugs have that much of a powerful effect on a child

hope you get to the bottom of it
