          First degree in engineering before studying a masters in statistics / stochastic processes. Afterwards, in Scotland at least, there was no job for me in my chosen field of study. And those that were available was offering a pittance of a salary combined with a cost of living that made no sense.

          An engineering firm in Germany contacted me offering an opportunity in my chosen field of study. Not because it was a requirement but because they wanted to know about their product.

          So yeah, excuse me for wanting to 'better myself' in my chosen field rather than submit to the rat-race with the belief I'll be given some reward in the winter of my life upon retirement.

                That's not what I said. I said economics of it made no sense. I had work but then a house was going to cost 9 times my annual income. In what universe does that make sense, not one I've living in.
