Southern Rail Protests and Crowd Funding a Judicial Review

    Hi,

For those of you in the South East fed up struggling to commute using trains, the newly formed Association of British Commuters has set up a crowd-funding campaign to pay for lawyers to carry out a judicial review.

So far this has raised £20,000 ish, but the target is £25,000+.

I was wondering if any of the well-heeled community here would be interested in donating to improve our chances of getting to work on time, and getting home on time, by train?

Thanks for your time reading this.

The only people to gain from this will be the lawyers. Even a relatively small case regarding judicial review will cost £250,000 + other sides costs if you fail. I would guess the figure for this case would more likely to run into millions moreover, the courts will favour the status quo ie government policy and train companies. Even if commuters win in the High Court, the government would take the case to the Supreme Court and that would guarantee a government win.

Southern is not the only crap rail network, why not have a judicial review for all franchises?

I guess you only post early in the morning to write negative things.

The judicial review is one way to force the Department of Transport to do something else - why do you think Heathrow still hasn't been granted a third runway?

Why can't you pay the actual cost of transport instead of expecting subsidies from the rest of the country?

That's not what they are complaining about.

Oh and as a taxpayer you should be p*ssed that Southern rail bosses are milking it but not providing a service.

I've seen the house prices in the south. Everyone is a millionaire. It's in the Daily Mail every week and you're having to have a whip round?

Should just be a lottery and the loser has to sell up to fund it.

No but it's what GB9 is complaining about

Public transport is far better in the south east, no doubt about it.

That's because there is a larger amount of people who live in the SE for the size of the area, and while the SE includes London not everyone lives in London so they don't have access to all the tube, bus services, trams, overground and train services in London.

In fact of you live in one of the Home Counties and don't live in a large town or city you get to suffer the same sh*t bus services as everyone else in the country who doesn't live in a city/large town.

Anyway Southern's provision of public transport leaves a lot to be desired. Many scheduled services don't turn up at all, turn up late with 4 carriages when the train is rammed if there are 12 carriages, or they change the timetable so they cancel all trains going through particular stations.

There are other train operators in the SE yet you don't hear people constantly moaning about them simply because their management isn't as incompetent.

The same happens on SW Trains and even worse SW Train Journies are more expensive than Southern.
