Things are on the whole quite good.

Why can’t we see that we’re living in a golden age?

According to the stats in the above article.

But is the spectator actually a believable publication? (serious question!)

In the great scheme of things how can we say it's anything but?

World is not safe with Islamic terrorism. Human race needs to eradicate Islamic terrorism. Can't call it a "Golden Age" when people are driving lorries into children, putting bombs in airports, cutting people's heads off, throwing them off buildings, shooting people in cafes and restaurants, week in and week out.

Would you rather be a king in the middle ages or a factory worker now? You can have all the king's fine things. Do you want constant toothache? No modern medicines?

What upsets people is inequality. That older people have climbed the ladder their forefathers did. Then pulled it up behind them. And the richest 1% sharing less and less.

I bet more people are killed by cars each year across Europe.

Of course we can stop that by banning cars.

Sometimes progress requires a few side effects.

Agree, not in Syria or Iraq.
But in a Western country you're far more at risk of dying in a car accident, or from smoking or excessive alcohol consumption or obesity, than terrorism, and yet fat people pontificate on how scary it is while puffing and downing drinks.

Well that's okay then. May as well let them pick us off, after all they are far safe than a car. Maybe the security forces should shoot all the the cars instead?

                You really are dense.

I keep telling my kids this when they come up with first world problems.

Infant mortality almost everywhere is down to historic lows.

                  Life expectancy is up (mostly).

Quality of life in the last 100 years is highest for the majority in millennia. Even if its Tulip its still better than it used to be.

Yes we have religious extremists and wars but not to the extent we had in history.

Well if you describe the Granuaid & Independent online as a paper then yes the spectator is one.
Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.

Should they trade up to the daily mail?
