    Cloud Storage Options

    Quick questions for the forum.

Who is using personal cloud storage? What are using and do you think it's the best? How much do you pay and how much space for that?

Dropbox Pro 1Tb for £75 (IIRC) a year.

I like it. I especially like the fact that you can list all your files on your tablet but it only permanently stores the ones you favourite. If you want to view any others just click to download. Easy to share folders with family etc.

Edit: Even though I have 1Tb I probably only use 10% of that at the moment.

      Dropbox Pro; 1.08TB (301gb used) ~£7.50 a month

      I swear by it to

      A) keep all my local workstations in sync
      B) keep a back up of key files (mainly RAW photo's from my Plan B)
      C) The ability to share folders between dropbox accounts and how easy it is to move things between them using all the different apps or web

For example my entire iTunes is stored in dropbox and synced to the desktop or any of the laptops so that playlists etc are all synced, I also have the dropbox app installed on my NAS so again iTunes is on there, shared out to my SONOS so it picks up my whole library. Also my Brother MFD has a Dropbox app so that when ever I scan anything it goes straigh to Dropbox, I can chose it to be a PDF or JPG. I also have the a clients folder and each client I work on has a dropbox folder, and where allowed I install the Dropbox client on the client laptop ad a scratchpad folder of useful info is available at the client, as well as a repository of useful scripts which go from client to client. Lastly I use 1Password to manage all my passwords, which the key file is stored in dropbox to back it up, but also to allow 1Password to sync with my iPad and iPhone

It's somewhere for MF to hide his porn stash from the wife. I would have suggested floppy disks, but then I would have had to explain the joke to him...

Using OneDrive, and using SyncBackPro to sync (one-way) from local to cloud. SyncBackPro is not the fastest, but does the job. OneDrive 1TB came with Office 365 subscription.

Haven't tried using it yet. But although 1 TByte sounds a lot, I've heard that access speeds are absolutely abysmal, and in practice it would take the age of the Universe to actually fill that space with files.

Also, I'd be worried that if the company went out of business, or I forgot to pay my subscription one year, then my remotely stored files would be automatically wiped!

IMHO it's better to have your own NAS, like a QNAP, and access your files remotely from that.

And then you can also run rm -rf

I'm using Tresorit for almost two years now. End to end encryption with servers in the EU protected by Swiss privacy laws. €200 a year.
