I used to love Rentaghost when it first started, then it all got a bit silly.

There was Mr Mumford, Timothy Claypole and the Victorian chap in the stovepipe hat whose name I can't remember.

    Early Rent-a-ghost was top drawer.

Yes, - the character whose name I couldn't remember was Mr Davenport. The actor who played him died in 1979 & the guy who played Mumford refused to take part in any further series.
Then it all went downhill but not as bad as this if it ever happened:

Warner Bros had acquired the rights to RentaGhost and was going to develop it into a Beetlejuice-style afterlife feature comedy vehicle for Russell Brand as Fred Mumford.
    Is nothing sacred?

    But...

it was reported that Ben Stiller had now been signed for the project
    That's more like it...

I was a bit miffed the bbc obituary did not include that.
We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.
