Anyone had adult orthodontic work and/or veneers done?

My teeth are probably the thing I like least about my appearance - my enamel has gone very translucent over the last 10 years, and I've wondered for a while about saving up for some fairly serious private work. Probably full sets of veneers and possibly some straightening, and I guess having metal fillings replaced for good measure.

Obviously not cheap, and not something you can really change your mind about afterwards; once you've got veneers you have to stick (!) with them forever.

I wondered if any of you rich buggers has splashed out some cash for similar things? If so what did you have, how was it, how much was it, and how did it turn out?

Invisalign braces ~ 6 years ago, top and bottom, 6 months to correct party trick; getting £1 coin between front teeth, general straighten bottom set.

New set of transparent braces every 2 weeks to nudge the teeth.

Post treatment; overnight retainer to keep them there, can get away with long weekend without them, the teeth dont just pop back.

      2k interest free loan @ 200 a month.

Sensitive at the time, happy with result, would do it again.

and then Miss Jagger makes it sexy.
Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.

I never knew you had to use retainers afterwards, I thought your mouth 'set' in the final position. Or was that because yours was so severe?

Splurged £3.5k about 15 years ago. All fillings removed and replaced with white ones, six crowns (included completely redoing my front teeth which were badly aligned) and whitening. Would probably cost double that amount today. Best money I've ever spent. Teeth look great, and have never given me any problems since.

Warning: Get a very, very good dentist. I went to a specialist, and not some high-street hack shop. Make sure they've been established at least 10 years, and get plenty of independent recommendations.

or false gnashers? Damn site cheaper, and you can take them out to brush them

Darn - no toothless redneck smiley AFAICS - I'm sure there was one!

To be honest this is one of those things that's better done abroad. I'd have it done in Chicago or LA.

You should PM the OP where you went and the name of the dentist who did the work.

Had mine done as a kid. Never bothered with the retainers (I was a teenager and it wasn't cool). Teeth aren't bad at all, but could be a lot better. ms#5 had full metalwork, wore the retainers dilligently, and has beautifully straight teeth.
